About home structure fires

U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average 370,000 home structure fires in 2011. These fires caused:

  • 2,250 civilian fire deaths
  • 13,910 civilian fire injuries
  • $6.9 billion in direct damage

Roughly 85 percent of all civilian fire deaths in 2011 resulted from home structure fires. An average of seven people a day die in U.S. home fires.
