Commentary: Addressing Fire Service Cancer Starts With Embracing Fire Sprinklers

"There is a lot of discussion about changing the culture of the fire service today," states Coalition Chair Gregg Cleveland in his recent commentary. "In my nearly 40 years in the fire service, I have witnessed a lot of positive change; firefighters smoking cigarettes are rare, most all firefighters wear SCBA, and there is more awareness for health and safety of firefighters than ever before. However, there is still one area we need to address: home fire sprinklers."

Coalition Attends Homebuilder's Show, Learns Lessons

The coalition exhibited at the recent Home Building and Remodeling Show in Milwaukee and surveyed attendees on home fire sprinklers. According to the survey, most attendees said that they would consider home fire sprinklers as an option if the homebuilder would present them as such in their building plans. For additional insights from the survey, read the post on NFPA's Fire Sprinkler Initiative blog.

Coalition Chair: Start Focusing on Firefighter Injury Costs to Boost Fire Sprinkler Acceptance

Gregg Cleveland, chair of the Wisconsin Fire Sprinkler Coalition and fire chief of the La Crosse Fire Department, penned a recent commentary focusing on the high cost of firefighter injuries.
